I saw this come across on Twitter this this morning. The Google Maps mashup Ifitwasmyhome.com allows you to put a scale model of the Gulf of Mexico oil slick over any part of the earth you want.
I have heard that the click slick is approximately the size of South Carolina. After seeing this map, I’m not sure what surprises me more: how small South Carolina is compared to Montana or just how big the oil slick actually is.
In case you’re wondering, the website gets its data about the size of the oil slick from NOAA.
